Hebrew Calligraphy
By registering for this class, you agree that you will be an active participant. There is a cost involved with this class to cover materials. The cost has been waived by a very generous congregant donation. If you are unable to fully participate, please consider leaving a space available for someone who can be fully committed to the program. Thank you.

What goes into writing a Torah? What materials are used? Do the letters need to look a particular way? This four part course will be an intro to the tradition of Hebrew ritual calligraphy, sofrut. We will discuss different Jewish scribal traditions around the world, how the materials for Torahs, tefillin and mezuzot are prepared, and we will dive into the basic principles behind Hebrew calligraphy. You will receive a kit that includes Torah ink, parchment, and a quill among other supplies.
Meeting is over, you can not register now. If you have any questions, please contact Meeting host: Temple Beth Elohim.
